Clinical hypnotherapy uses practical and modern strategies to help people to make significant changes to their lives in a relatively short period of time.
What is Trance?
One question I am often asked when people are thinking about coming to see me is about trance and what will happen. There are some misconceptions about it; mostly that the therapist will take over the client’s mind and control it. This is not the case. Trance helps you to gain control over your own mind so that you can achieve your goals.
Trance is something that you are already familiar with but probably have never realised. If you have driven your car and suddenly noticed that you didn’t remember the journey, or maybe you have found yourself daydreaming, then you have experienced trance. It is something that we do many times a day and is quite natural. During hypnotherapy that state of therapeutic trance is contrived by the therapist. It is just a form of guided relaxation. You are conscious the whole time. It is not “done to you” but with you. You have total control and you cannot be made to do anything against your will. Trance is a very pleasant and deeply relaxing experience, leaving you feeling very calm. Many clients report how much they love it!

How does Trance work?
Trance works in a similar way to REM sleep. During REM sleep and trance, our mind is much more open to positive suggestion than it is at other times. This is partly because in trance our conscious and subconscious minds can work together rather than separately. So you are using more of your brain’s natural power. In trance the more willing you are to do something positive and the more you visualise it, the more receptive your brains neurons will become. Trance is the stimulus we need to help our brains grown new and positive pathways.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy
At Libra Hypnotherapies I use solution focused hypnotherapy. This type of therapy does not focus on our problems, the past or what we don’t want to be happening. Instead it focuses on how we would like our lives to be and the steps we can take to make that journey of change. When we take even one small step it can be the catalyst for much more change. You need not worry that you will have to spend time re-examining painful memories, or negative situations. Of course they will be acknowledged, but we focus on where you want your life to be. You will be in control of the process. However change will only happen of you are prepared to take the steps necessary to do it.
